Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Provincial President Liaquat Balouch has urged the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of efforts being made by President Pervez Musharraf for his re-election as head of the state.
Baloch told reporters here on Friday that President Musharraf was misguiding the public because he claimed that the 17th Constitutional Amendment bars him from contesting the elections. "Had Musharraf resigned on December 31, 2004 from the office he could have contested the elections," he said.
He also said MMA head Qazi Hussain Ahmed had already filed a petition in the court on the uniform case, warning that the MMA would march towards Islamabad if President Musharraf re-contested the presidential poll. He said the MMA in Punjab would hold a road caravan on August 19 and 20 in Bedian, Kasur, Okara, Depalpur, Vehari to mobilise the public opinion against the regime.
He said public meetings under the banner of newly formed All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) would also be held on August 22 in Quetta, September 6 in Peshawar, September 9 in Karachi and most probably on September 11 in Lahore.
