Bangladesh tea prices fall on poor quality

The average price of Bangladesh teas fell 1.78 percent to 79.02 taka ($1.15) per kg on poor quality at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said. "Nearly 1.40 million kg were sold at an average price of 79.02 taka per kg, down 1.44 taka from the previous sale. The withdrawal percentage was 18.16," said an official of the National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.
Buyers from Pakistan and Bangladesh participated in the weekly auction. "The quality fell as floods, that killed some 615 people in the country over the past weeks hindered normal works at most tea gardens," an auctioneer said
Some 1,000 kg of well made Churamoni Dust realised the highest price of 144 taka per kg while other grades were sold between 50 taka and 137 taka per kg. The ekly auction will be held on August 28 with an expected offering of 1.62 million kg.
