Six Textile Associations constituting Pakistan Textile Forum (PTF) have decided to launch an organised movement to pull the industry out of current crisis. A meeting of the Forum was held here under the Chairmanship of Mian Zahid Aslam.
Mian Aftab Ahmad, Regional Chairman All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Muhammad Akram Ghouri Vice Chairman All Pakistan Cotton Powerlooms Association, Mirza Muhammad Shafique, Chairman Sizing Association, Farhat Ullah Sheikh Senior Vice Chairman Pakistan Textile Exporters Association, Mian Shabbir Ahmed Ex-Chairman All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association, Sh Mukhtar Ahmad Chairman Faisalabad Garment City Company, Mian Amjad Saeed Vice Chairman Sizing Association, Raja Muhammad Sabir All Pakistan Bedsheets and Upholstry Manufacturers Association attended the meeting.
The meeting expressing concern over the continuing crisis in textile industry noted that the industry was under great pressure and was on the verge of disaster. The participants pointed out that if the industry collapsed then irreparable damage would be rendered to economy as well as Country.
They further apprehended that the law and order situation would worsen resultant upon the closure of textile sector. They said that they had tried their best at individual levels but have not succeeded and hence the need to launch a joint and organised effort on this Forum's platform.
The participants decided to apprise President Pervez Musharraf and Premier Shaukat Aziz of the seriousness of the crisis. The meeting decided to launch protest movement if the problem was not heeded to. For this purpose, all textile organisations of the country would be contacted to join the movement. The meeting authorised the Chairman Mian Zahid Aslam to establish contacts with the other organisations.
The participants also expressed concern over the unscheduled load shedding which was hurting the industry. They said that in this connection Fesco should be contacted and asked to solve the issue failing which the industry will be closed down.
