The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has asked the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to stop President Pervez Musharraf from election campaigning.
Bar Vice President Sahibzada Anwar Hameed and his Secretary, Zulfiqar Ali Bokhari, told reporters that the election campaign by the president was illegal and unconstitutional. They said lawyers were still struggling against the rulers, adding that the second round of their campaign would be announced immediately after strategy made by action committee.
They said lawyers supported judicial activism and the decisions by the higher judiciary to strengthen the democracy in the country. They also condemned the action of Chief Minister Sindh withdrawing police deployed for the security of higher judges. They said such action was only to threaten the judges.
They said lawyers were with the judiciary and they would not leave the judges alone at any time and would not allow any body to threaten them in any way. They also asked the government to drop notices issued to professors joining in their struggle to have the chief justice restored. They warned that the lawyers would restart their campaign against the government, if it refused to drop the notices.
