The Independence Day celebrations start on the 1st of August and continue till 31st. For the whole month, every citizen has a right to fly the national flag, at his home, office, vehicle, anywhere. Many do.
Our flag is not just a symbol of our country. It also represents our Independence, which was a unique occurrence in history. Other people got liberation from foreign occupation, while their countries already existed. We not only got freedom from colonial rule, but also got a new country created for ourselves. Our Independence has far more significance.
So, we celebrate it with extra passion. Everyone must be a part of the celebrations. Ignore the cynical comments that the media and politicians make on this occasion. It is not an occasion to moan or criticise. Never forget that there is no heaven on this earth. We do have some deficiencies but we have far more and far bigger accomplishments.
This is not an occasion for reading the balance sheet. This is an occasion for celebration. And it is not expensive at all. A flag of good size will cost you less than a pizza or burger. And you can fly it for many years. Be proud of your country and your Independence.
