Pakistan has become an American colony and Washington is also behind the Musharraf-Benazir Bhutto deal, charged Sindh National Front Chairman Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, addressing "Meet the Press" programme of the Karachi Press Club here on Thursday.
He said that the worst law and order situation in the country was due prolonged dictatorship and provincial autonomy under confederation system was the only solution to nation's problems. He said that unfortunately from the first day, nationalist politics in the country remained focused on separation tendencies, adding he never demanded or talked to divide Pakistan.
Mumtaz Bhutto said that the demands of Sindhudesh, Pashtoonistan and Greater Balochistan were the result of not giving provincial autonomy from Federal unit as stated in the resolution of 1940. He said that instead of following rules of democracy, a minority was given the government instead of Bengalis, who were in majority at that time, adding this game was still being played in the country. He claimed that the 'dictatorship of federation' resulted the dismemberment of country.
He said that he had suggested a third alternative of confederation system instead of separation and federation. He said that he, along with his party, had been working on this agenda for last 22 years. He claimed that his party was fighting for the rights of all nationalities living in the country.
He said a country would have no future where killers and thieves were being appointed as governors and ministers. He regretted that blood of innocent citizens was being shed for vested interests of some people.
Replying a question, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto said that Benazir Bhutto had argued against his participation to London APC and that's why he couldn't attend the meeting. He claimed that Benazir Bhutto had a personal jealousy with him. He accused PPP of trying to sabotage the London APC.
Talking about the Musharraf-Benazir deal, he alleged that Benazir Bhutto, through this deal, wanted to save her ill-gotten wealth amassed by corruption and loot and plunder of national wealth. He said that Benazir Bhutto was striking deal with a dictator to save herself from corruption cases. He claimed that both Benazir Bhutto and General Musharraf met on the US directions, adding but both would fail to remain in power. He said that PPP had given nothing to the country during its last two governments but corruption and bribery.
To another question, he said that he hadn't contested in the election since last 15 years and won't contest in future also but his party would fully participate in the next general elections if held by a neutral set-up, as he charged that polls under General Musharraf would be rigged.
He said since General Zia era, corruption and personal interests had become the part of political culture in Pakistan, and now it has become a psyche of masses to vote only to candidates indulged in power politics. He, however, hoped that this trend would be changed when the provincial autonomy would be introduced in the country.
