Central president of the opposition alliance of the religio-political parties Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Qazi Hussain Ahmad on Friday alleged that the policies of the President General Pervez Musharraf has caused decline in the morale of Pakistan Army.
Talking to newsmen here at historic Mohabat Khan Mosque after Friday's prayers, he said that the security forces of the country now instead of firing its own people prefer becoming hostage at their hands. He called for elevation of the chairman Senate to the office of acting president as per constitution and independent election commission to hold free, fair and transparent polls.
He warned the PPP chairperson, Benazir Bhutto against the usage of backdoor to come into power and vowed that along with President Musharraf they would also resist any attempt on her behalf.
The MMA chief, who had resigned from the membership of National Assembly, said that General Pervez Musharraf had proved disqualified, therefore, he should quit his office voluntarily or would be removed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Qazi Hussain Ahmad said that All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), a grand opposition parties alliance decided against keeping any contact with the present government, saying that opposition in their protest against President Musharraf also has the option of mass resignations from the assemblies.
He said that the country has entered critical juncture and urged on all sections of life in Pakistan to extend their support to democratic forces, independent judiciary and lawyers' community against dictatorship. Qazi, who head the second largest component of the religious alliance, MMA, said that dictatorial policies had flopped and independent judiciary is struggling for establishment of the supremacy of constitution in the country.
He charged President Musharraf for unleashing a reign of terror by using military for firing on the peaceful and empty-handed people in Lal Masjid. He said that opposition parties would no more tolerate the cruel policies, the imposition of martial law or declaration of the state of emergency in the country. He attributes national accountability bureau (NAB) to blackmailing institution of the government.
