Government has completed survey in 10 backward union councils of Rawalpindi district to set up Non-Formal Literacy Centers. The government would establish literacy centers in each union council of the district including.
In which 225 Non-Formal Basic Literacy Centers (NFBLC) to accommodate children below 12 years of age and 300 Non-Formal Adult Literacy Centers (NFALC) to educate people above 15, said an official in Education Department of Punjab Government here on Friday, while talking to Business Recorder.
He said that the survey was completed in 10 backward UCs of the district including Adiala, Sial, Banda union councils of Rawalpindi tehsil, Kurri Dalal and Morra Noori UC of Gujjar Khan, Trait UC of Murree, Kalar Syeddan UC of Kalar Syeddan, Khadote UC of Kahuta, Do-Danndian UC of Kotli Sattiyan and Thatta Khalil UC of Taxila and it has been presented to the provincial government for approval.
He said that Basic Literacy Centers would start working from October 1 and complete the course up to class 5 within 40 months. After completion of the course, these students would be admitted in sixth class in schools. The Adult Literacy Centers would start working from January 1, 2008.
He said that 525 teachers including 225 female for NFBLCs and 300 for NFALC would be appointed and paid an honorarium of Rs 4000 per month. Government would provide books, stationery, furniture and all other requirements for these centers while teachers would also be provided accommodation.
He said that children working at workshops to earn their livelihood could be directly benefited from Non-Formal Basic Education Centers. Under this program the government would be able to attain the target of 86 per cent literacy rate by 2015. He said that Nazims of these union councils would supervise these literacy centers.
