In view of the increasing incidents of suicide bombings the Rawalpindi Police have enhanced security of the mosques and Imambargahs to avoid any untoward incident during Ramazan. Nasir Khan Durrani, the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi has directed all the District Police Officers to take foolproof security measures.
The RPO also issued a SOP to be followed by the management of the Mosques. The local police will ensure that these are followed in letter and spirit. In this regard, all the Mosques of the category A & B to be guarded by either police or private security guards during prayer times especially during Fajar, Maghrab and Taravih. Only one gate would be opened and others to be closed during prayers time.
Durrani also directed that no stranger should be allowed in the mosque after Isha prayer. Imam Masjid / Khadims have also been asked to take round of the Mosque premises in order to identify any suspicious material before start of the prayer.
The local SHOs have also been asked that where private security guards do not have any license for keeping the firearms they should be facilitated to keep the firearms as retainer after observing due legal formalities.
