Pakistan Ambassador-designates to Italy Tasnim Aslam has assured the business community that she will do whatever in her capacity to boost Pakistan exports to Italy. Addressing members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Wednesday, she said that she was well aware of the business community's problem in respect of increasing exports.
She said that Italy was a developed country and could assist Pakistan in developing its industrial and agriculture base. Regarding marble sector, she pointed out that Pakistan had good quality marble, but due to use of old methods, around 40 to 60 percent marble was wasted during mining.
"Likewise, around 50 percent fruits and vegetables goes waste due to non-existence of proper transportation facilities from farms to markets as well as poor use of preservation methods," she said. She said Italian experts could be invited to help Pakistan in these sectors for mutual benefits.
Criticising media, she said that Pakistan was a loving country. People were friendly, but media always ignored the positive aspect of the nation and the country, she said, and advised the media to highlight the good quality of Pakistani peoples. Regarding investment in Pakistan, she suggested holding of cultural shows in each other's country so that people could come closer and know each other.
Speaking on the occasion, Consul General of Italy Domenico Benincasa said that Italy was trying to establish a technical training centre in Pakistan. Welcoming the guests, KCCI President Majyd Aziz noted that Italians wanted to relocate their units due to tough competition with China and high production cost in his country. He suggested that efforts should be made to attract the Italian industrialists so that they could establish their units in Pakistan.
