National Assembly Standing Committee on Food Agriculture and Livestock was informed on Tuesday that Pakistan had been made rinderpest (animal disease) free country owing to effective policies and continued struggle of the government.
The committee, which met with Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Alam Anwar in the Chair, discussed various issues relating to productivity of the livestock sector. The Committee urged the agri scientists and high officials of the Minfal to fully concentrate on research work with dedication and commitment with their profession.
"As the government has allocated billions of rupees for research work to improve livestock productivity in the country and its results must appear on ground," the committee said. The Chairman directed the concerned authorities for instant preventive measure against foot and mouth diseases, which caused loss of millions of rupees, annually.
He asked to increase vaccine-producing capacity, which was presently stood on three million doses per annum, which was below the domestic need. The chairman asked the financial organisations to provide micro credit loans at low rate of interest to increase micro industry to alleviate poverty.
He said strong intra-province communication system should be put in place to share research and experimental findings. The meeting was attended by Dr Rozina Tufail, Rao Muhammad Ajmal, Secretary and other officials of Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal).
