Government urged to allow tax-free import of LPG

LPG Distributors' Association Pakistan Chairman Abdul Hadi Khan has demanded of the government to allow tax-free import of liquefied petroleum gas to discourage the vested interests responsible for artificial shortage of this alternate fuel.
According to a spokesman of the Association, he raised this demand at a meeting of the association held on Wednesday. Hadi Khan alleged that an organised cartel had unjustifiably increased the price of domestic cylinder by Rs 15 to Rs 20 in last two days.
He told the meeting that the price of a domestic cylinder weighing 11.8 kg, which was between Rs 485 and Rs 490 on 1st of September, reached Rs 585-590 on 24th September. Speaking on the occasion, the association's vice chairman Mohammad Ishaq urged the government to abolish all taxes on import of LPG and announce an incentive-based scheme for LPG as had been done in case of wheat and cement import. He also proposed for including LPG in sensitive items' list.
