A 3-day Hyderabad Festival will be organised by City District Government Hyderabad (CDGH) in the month of March 2008 aimed at to highlight and project the historical background, cultural heritage and traditional trends of historical city of Hyderabad.
This was decided in a meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Zila Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil in his office. The Zila Nazim Hyderabad said that Hyderabad possess historical heritage of Sindh province which has remained capital of that time, and it is our prime duty to protect and preserve the cultural heritage and existence. He said that there are numerous historical and old buildings in and around Hyderabad City, which are now in deteriorated condition.
He directed to enlist all such buildings, monuments and constructions, which will be repaired and renovated on front side so as to protect the same. It was decided that provincial government will be moved to immediately declare about 100 buildings of Hyderabad as protected buildings under preservation of heritage buildings law. The Zila Nazim Hyderabad informed that all occupations and encroachments from Holmstead Hall have been removed and vacated and a library will be established there. Besides, municipal museum will be established at old DC House while an art gallery will soon be established at Mukhi House.
Kanwar Naveed Jamil informed that an amount of Rs 20 million have been allocated for establishment of library at Holmstead Hall while renovation and betterment work has been initiated at Rani Bagh at revised estimates of Rs 150 million which will be completed up to June 2008.
The Zila Nazim added that Hyderabad festival will include illumination of renovated historical buildings such as Hyderabad Fort, Katcha Qilla, Market Tower, Tombs of Meers, Sindh University Old Campus, Basant Hall, Civil Hospital, Session Court Buildings, Mukhi House, Shamdas Park, S.K. Rahim School, Kewal Ram Building etc.
The Zila Nazim Hyderabad further said that Hyderabad (Neeron Kot) is an old city amongst present main cities of Pakistan, and Hyderabad Festival will highlight and project the importance and image of the city.
