Former Chief Justice, Peshawar High Court (PHC) Abne Ali on Friday announced joining Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarian (PPP-P) after expressing confidence in the central and provincial leaderships of the party.
Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club, the former Chief Justice said that he was part of PPP before joining judiciary. He vowed to render any kind of sacrifice for the party and serving people of the province.
The PPP provincial chief, Rahimdad Khan and divisional president, Syed Zahir Ali Shah who were also present on the occasion congratulated and welcomed the retired justice into the party fold. They said that the party would utilise the experience of the retired judge for betterment of the people of the country and province.
Justice Abne Ali said that PPP has track record of struggles for the restoration of democracy and supremacy of constitution. He was hopeful that the party would revive its tradition of bringing the country out of the prevailing crises.
Speaking on the occasion, Rahimdad Khan dispelled the impression that PPP would handover Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, founder of the nuclear programme to the United States.
He said that the party had fielded Makhdoom Amin Fahim as candidate for the office of President to challenge the candidature of President General Pervez Musharraf. "A meeting of the central executive committee and Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) will be held in London on October 3 to frame strategy for future line of action," the PPP leader added.
In response to a question, he said that PPP would never support PML-Q in its bid of moving no-confidence motion against MMA government in the province. He said that neither nuclear assets will be handed over to any one nor would any interference or pressure be borne in this regard.
He alleged that some forces have launched a smear campaign to destroy the image of PPP among the people. However, he said that all kind of conspiracies had remained fruitless in past and would face the same fate in future too. He claimed that the popularity graph of PPP was on rise and important figures and social personalities were joining the party every day. He said that President Musharraf is not acceptable to PPP in any form either in uniform or as civilian.
