Like in other parts of the country, All Parties Democratic Movement NWFP chapter also took out rallies and staged protest camps at various places in the provincial metropolis against the presidential election.
The APDM NWFP chapter had also urged for wheel-jam strike and shutter-down, however, the call was partially followed and shops at some of the markets were remained open while traffic partially suspended on the road.
The component parties in APDM had established protest camps at three points including Yaadqar Square, Peshawar Saddar and university road that were decorated with banners and placards inscribed with various slogans against the presidential election and General Musharraf. The protest camps started from 9.am from 2 pm, were attended by former NWFP Chief Minister and provincial president of Pakistan Muslim League-N, Pir Sabir Shah, provincial president of Awami National Party Afrasiyab Wali Khan and central vice president of ANP Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, provincial Amir Jamaat-i-Islami and former senior minister Sirajul Haq, provincial president of Pukhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party Mukhtar Yousafzai, former MNA from JI Shabir Ahmed Khan, Bashir Bilour of ANP, Mukhtar Bacha of Pakistan National Party and Mian Iftikhar of ANP. Moreover, the leaders and scores of workers of APDM taken out protest rallies from Yaadqar Square and after marching on various routs reached Qissakhwani bazaar where it turned into a big public gathering.
The activists of APDM besides holding placards and banners were also shouting full-throated slogans against the Musharraf-led government and his 'unconstitutional election'. Addressing on the occasion, Pir Sabir Shah said that boycott of the presidential election by APDM was a big blow for General Musharraf adding the day of October 6 would be the blackest day in the country's history. "It was never happened in Pakistan's history that an incumbent general contest election for the slot of president.
