The Punjab government is spending a huge sum of Rs 23 billion annually to provide medical facilities to the people at their doorstep. Sources in the health department told APP that the incumbent government is focusing on provision of best possible health facilities to the masses.
Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has directed the administrations of all public hospitals across the province to extend free medicare to the patients in the emergency ward.
The sources said South Punjab has been gifted with the state-of-the-art institute of cardiology at Multan, which has been widely appreciated. The Chief Minister has recently announced special pay package for the doctors and particularly for those serving in rural areas so that the residents of these remote areas may also get treatment.
Even medicines are provided to the poor free of cost. The sources said, as a result of these endeavours, the doctors' attendance at the government hospitals has improved and absenteeism has diminished.
