International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Pakistan Red Crescent Societies' (PRCS) mobile health teams will continue delivering medical care and health education in earthquake-hit areas of NWFP.
According to IFRC, the programme will provide training in areas such as community-based first aid, traditional birthing techniques for midwives and hygiene promotion to upto 2,000 people each week.
It said PRCS and IFRC's health programme would continue running mobile health clinics besides more preventive care and education until permanent health units become operational.
Similarly, all 28 planned schools and medical facilities are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008 while the community centres will be completed by 2009. Since the beginning of the operation in the quake-hit areas, International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement have provided basic health care for almost a million people in NWFP and AJK.
Almost 60,000 people have received psychosocial support from the Danish Red Cross funded by the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid Department.
A further 39 water supply schemes will be reconstructed by mid 2009, bringing clean drinking water to 160,000 people. The construction of a further 3,400 latrines has also been planned for 60 village communities.
The water and sanitation project will benefit 160,000 people by the end of 2009 by providing them with improved access to sanitation facilities, enhanced knowledge of hygiene and access to clean water. The International Federation will also continue working to build the capacity of the PRCS through ongoing disaster management, health programmes and support for vulnerable communities so that they are better prepared when disaster strikes.
