The District Coordination Officer (DCO) Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri has said that an education plan aiming to ensure 100 percent enrolment, increase adult literacy rate and qualitative education was being implemented by District Government Hyderabad.
This will be done in consultation and technical help with "National Commission for Human Development" (NCHD) and participation of community and stakeholders. He said this while presiding over a meeting to review progress on the project held at his camp office last evening.
Addressing the meeting, the DCO Hyderabad said that this project was also the part of District Education Plan launched by Zila Nazim Hyderabad. The DCO Hyderabad said that under this project adult literacy programme was launched 18 months ago with the establishment of 600 adult literacy centres throughout the district while the plan to improve primary education was launched on August 4, 2007. He said that under this plan teachers would be held responsible for increasing enrolment at their schools.
He said that strong recording and reporting system was being introduced in all sections of education department and now Supervisor Primary Education (SPE), Additional District Officer (ADO) Education, District Officer (DO) Education, Executive District Officer (EDO) Education should prepare monthly progress report and submit it to DCO to evaluate and examine the performances.
Talking on enrolment, the DCO Hyderabad said that under Primary Education Plan a survey was being conducted by NCHD in 15 Union Councils of the district, including 11 from rural and 04 from urban areas to collect the data of children having age group from 0 to 9 years, and 5 to 7 years, with the number of enrolled and not enrolled children.
He said that according to the result of the survey, the enrolment figure in rural area was not so satisfactory due to many reasons and added that an integrated strategy was being adopted specially to cover the enrolment at gray areas of the district.
Due to keen interest of the Zila Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil, all schools of the district were being converted into English medium in phases, simultaneously primary school teachers were being trained properly to run these English medium schools successfully, the DCO Hyderabad said that the district government Hyderabad in collaboration with NCHD and sim-4.com has arranged 3 months training course of English language for primary school teachers. The training of first batch of 50 teachers would be launched after Eid-ul-Fitr.
The DCO Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri further said that District Education Department in collaboration with NCHD has also designed "Future Teaching Plan" to develop the communication skills, data gathering skills and critical analysis skills. He said that District Government Hyderabad has also planned to celebrate Teachers Day after the Eid-ul-Fitr in which appreciation certificates would be given to the teachers for achieving outstanding performances.
The DCO Hyderabad said that shortage of the teachers was an important factor behind the low quality of education as such, the District Government Hyderabad has submitted a new SNE to Provincial Government, requesting appointment of 1900 new teachers to overcome shortage of teachers in each school of the district and raise the standard of education at par with private schools.
