A vice-chancellor is being searched for the University of Karachi, as the incumbent one is retiring in January next year. The Standing Search Committee, appointed by Sindh Governor, who is the Chancellor of public sector universities in the province, is seeking services of a high class professional who could take up the challenging job of vice-chancellor of Karachi University.
An advertisement to this effect has been placed in newspapers.
It said that the person most suited for the position should have the required background of relevant scholarship, Ph D degree, and demonstrated administrative accomplishment with the ability to provide leadership and raise the institution to world-class level.
The person to be appointed to the post will hold the office for a term of four years. The salary and perquisites will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The last date for submission of application is October 25, 2007. The committee will invite the short-listed candidates and meet them for considering their candidatures further. It is learnt that three names would be submitted to the Chancellor for appointment of one of them as the vice-chancellor.
This is for the first time that a vice-chancellor would be selected for the University of Karachi by adopting such procedure. The Standing Search Committee has also placed advertisements for the vice-chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi, vice-chancellor of Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology, Nawabshah, and the vice-chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam.
