Muzaffagarh District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Nazir Akhtar has said that traders and shopkeepers has co-operated with the administration in selling the daily-use items particularly 'atta', sugar, rice, and vegetable ghee on reasonable prices fixed by the district administration, adding the people heaved a sigh of relief during Ramazan.
Delivering his speech at Iftar-dinner hosted for the journalists and officers by Dr Khalid Mehmood Zaffar Chaudhry, president, Muzaffargarh Press Club on Wednesday, he said there was no shortage of 'atta' or any other essential commodity during Ramazan, adding: "Even we had taken action against those, who were involved in hoarding, profiteering, and creating artificial shortage of consumer items."
He said that media persons had also played their key role in providing feedback and highlighting the people's problems particularly problems of remote areas.
The DCO said that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was personally monitoring the situation in all the districts of the province to ensure sufficient supply of atta, sugar, rice, vegetable ghee, while special allowance was given to the poor families so that they could easily keep "Roza" (fast).
Muzaffargarh DPO Maqsood-ul-Hassan said the law and order situation is well under control and a number of gangs of criminals, who were involved in robberies, kidnapping for ransom, murders, and rapes, were busted.
He said that 'Thana Culture' was entirely changed and stern action was being taken against SHOs and other police officials, who were involved in torture, custodial death, keeping the innocent people in unlawful confinement, harassing, and victimising the peace-loving people for the wish of their political opponents.
Maqsood-ul-Hassan said that Muzaffargarh police was ready to make arrangements for general election within 24 hours notice and we would hold elections in peaceful manners because voters cannot exercise their right of franchise in fear and state of terror.
Dr M.K. Zaffar Chaudhry said that media persons were the eyes and ears of the administration as well as the government who provide an opportunity to the administration to see the injustice, maladministration, corruption, and other social evils and listen to the people's voice.
He said the DCO should recommend the case of the Muzaffargarh Press Club for its early construction because Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi was very generous to journalists.
He was developing housing colonies for journalists in Multan, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and Lahore besides construction of new building of press clubs. He said: "We do hope that he will give gifts in the shape of a press club building and a housing colony for journalists."
