The NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (Retd) on Thursday laid the foundation stone for Levies Training Centre at Shah Kas in Jamrud sub division of Khyber Agency, 17 km west of Peshawar.
Spreading over a 400-kanal area, the centre would be a full-fledged complex having different infrastructures to facilitate the law enforcement agencies training programme for entire Fata.
Senator Hamidullah Jan Afridi, MNA Maulana Khalil-ur-Rehman, Additional Chief Secretary Fata Javed Iqbal, Secretary Law and Order Fata Arbab Muhammad Arif and Political Agent Syed Ameeruddin Shah were also present on the occasion besides a large number of tribal elders.
The project is part of the wide spread Fata complex at Shah Kas, covering an area of more than 3,000 kanals, which besides the levies training centre would also include the offices of political administration, Fata medical college, university of engineering and technology satellite complex, OPF girls college and IMS campus for Fata.
The governor was given a briefing on the project of levies training centre by the XEN, W&S Fata, and was informed that the project would cost Rs 512.513 million. The governor proposed certain changes in the master plan and directed that sufficient place should be left open for future requirements and further expansion. The governor unveiled the memorial plaque and laid the foundation stone.
Addressing the gathering of elders at site of the project, Governor Aurakzai disclosed that the govt was considering to establish of a separate Fata university, which will have its headquarter at Peshawar and different departments in all the tribal agencies. He said that the government had a very positive and constructive vision for Fata to make these areas fully developed and prosperous. He in this regard made a mention of the gigantic Fata sustainable development plan, which he said had been initiated at the cost of Rs 124 billion to be spent over the next eight years. The govt of Pakistan, he added would incur Rs 60 billion on the plan whereas the remaining amount would be provided by the donor countries and international organisations. He said that the tribesmen would be fully involved in the planning and implementation process.
Governor Aurakzai said that Fata was mine gold, where plenty of mineral resources were available. The govt, he added would explore and exploit all these resources, for which special projects were being included in the SDP. He in this connection referred to the Mohmand Marble City and said that it was the first project of its kind in the entire country, where marble factories and workshops with modern and state of the art machinery and equipment would be established for marble processing.
The governor also enumerated various welfare steps taken by the government for the wellbeing of the tribesmen during the previous one year period including provision of natural gas to Fata, extension of Zakat and Baitulmal system to Fata, establishment of Fata Education Foundation and opening of Red Crescent branch in Fata. He said that survey for provision of gas to tribal areas had been initiated. Similarly Fata Zakat Council had been formed whereas formation of Zakat committees at agency and Tehsil level was in the offing.
The governor urged the tribal elders to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the agency which, he added was must for furthering the development process. The governor assured the gathering of elders that the govt would take every step in the best interest of the area and the tribesmen and hoped that they would also extend their co-operation to the govt in this regard. He said that if peace prevailed, the area would witness a record development over the next decade to change the fate of the Fata people.
