Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPE STOCKS EXCHANGE: European stocks retreated, falling to a two-week low as worries over the impact of the credit market squeeze hit bank shares, while disappointing US earnings spurred concerns over its economy.
AstraZeneca Plc tumbled 3.6 percent after the European Patent Office revoked a patent on its key asthma drug Symbicort, putting at risk future sales of the blockbuster, which sold $1.02 billion in Europe last year. The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares closed 0.6 percent lower at 1,563.83 points, after rising to as much as 1,575.89 in early trade.
FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 7,884.12 points, down 37.28 or 0.47 percent, falling 157.14 points this week.
PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 5,740.48 points, down 26.76 or 0.46 percent, over the week the index lost 103.47 points.
ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 8,937.2 points, down 90.28 or 1.00 percent, 260.28 points lower on the week.

JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: South African stocks closed lower, pulled down by a decline in US equities while the rand was little changed to the dollar. The All-share index closed at 30,766.21 points, down 250.62 or 0.81 percent, a loss of 459.64 points since last Friday. The All Gold index closed at 2,500.72 points, up 9.67 or 0.39 percent, down 69.23 points from seven days ago, while the Industrial index closed at 21,084.63 points, down 131.16 or 0.62 percent, rising 117.86 points on the week.
