Andy Roddick was on Friday confirmed as the latest to join the eight-man field for November's Masters Cup in Shanghai. The ATP said the American world number five had qualified as he could not be dropped lower than eighth by any players standing behind him in the points race.
Roddick has not played since Davis Cup in September, flying to Bangkok last month but withdrawing with a foot injury. He then withdrew from this week's Madrid Masters with a knee problem. Three spots remain in the field for the elite, final event of 2008 which begins November 11.
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko have already been assured their places with the last spots to be decided over the course of the final fortnight of the regular ATP season.
