Finally Inzamam-ul-Haq bowed out of the cricket arena after playing his last Test match against South Africa at Lahore. For many commentators of the game this is a premature end of a cricketing career of a great cricketer who admirably served Pakistan for sixteen years.
The experts of the game believe that he still had a lot of cricket in him and he could have gone on to play for the next two years at least. By calling it a day Inzamam has disappointed the cricket enthusiasts wherever the game of cricket is played. Had he continued to play and piled up runs in the domestic cricket, then it would have been difficult for the selectors to ignore him for selection.
Seemingly, it was PCB who made Inzamam believe that he is a spent force now and does not stand any chance to play Test cricket for his country. Instead of showing the pugnacity of a fighting cricketer, Inzaman-ul-Haq lost faith in himself, fell into their trap and eventually announced his retirement from the game.
As compared to Javed Miandad who played 124 Test matches and scored 23 centuries, Inzamam scored 25 centuries in 120 Test matches he played for Pakistan. His highest score of 329 runs is the highest ever after Hanif Muhammad who scored 337 runs in Test cricket. It simply shows his skill and talent that placed him amongst the class of great batsmen of his era like Brian Lara, Steve Waugh and Sachin Tendulkar.
There is no doubt about the fact that with the departure of Inzamam-ul-Haq the game of cricket has got deprived of one of its finest batsmen ever.
