The rupee fell slightly against dollar in the interbank market on Monday due to strong demand for the greenback, dealers said. The rupee was two paisa lower against dollar at Rs 60.64, Rs 60.65 for buying and selling respectively, in process of trading, they said.
In the world markets, amid first session of the week, dollar suffered fresh losses against yen and hit a record low against euro in Asian trade as concerns about the US economy sparked another rout on global stock markets, dealers said.
The euro shot higher after top world finance chiefs refrained from voicing increased concern about currencies at their meeting on Friday, which dealers took as a green light to drive the greenback down to fresh lows. The dollar fell to 114.06 yen in Tokyo afternoon trade from 114.53 in New York late on Friday as speculators unwound risky "carry trade" bets that involve selling the Japanese currency to buy higher-return assets.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to hold its weekend level against dollar for buying and selling at Rs 60.65 and Rs 60.70, they said. While, it shed more 13 paisa in terms of euro for buying and selling at Rs 86.25 and Rs 86.35, dealers said.
