Provincial Ombudsman Abdur Rashid Khan has provided relief to 330 petitioners through the regional office Multan during September. This was stated by Advisor to provincial Ombudsman Syed Bahadar Shah while talking to APP.
He said a total of 354 applications were received by the regional office against provincial departments. Of them, 330 got relief from the Ombudsman while other petitions were rejected.
Syed Bahadar Shah, former District and Sessions judge, said that 42 applications were received against police officials. He explained that petitioners sought relief either for registration of criminal case against wrongdoers or sought action against culprits.
He said 70 applications were filed against the education department and 35 against revenue department. Another 19 petitions were received against the health department. The advisor said his office received 14 applications against anti-corruption establishment for non-action on their applications against corrupt officials.
Sixteen applications were received against Irrigation department, 19 against Tehsil Municipal Authority, eight against Forest department and equal number of petitions against District Accounts Office.
Syed Bahadar Shah disclosed that his office received 22 applications for redress against Federal departments, which were referred to the regional office of the Wafaqi Mohtasib for an appropriate action.
He said the institutions of Ombudsman, federal as well as provincial had been created to redress grievances against government departments or officials for abuse of powers or for their inaction. He said this forum did not require of a petitioner to engage any lawyer but an application was submitted to his office. Justice is dispensed by the provincial Ombudsman without any expenses borne by the aggrieved person.
