The overhead pedestrian bridges have become a source of concern for the citizens of twin cities, as electricity wires attached with the structures pose a danger to life. "Despite claims by the concerned authorities, the wires always hang from these bridges," said a pedestrian crossing the Faizabad Bridge.
Overhead bridges are otherwise the safest road-crossings for the pedestrians to avoid fatal accidents. The advertisement boards festooned to the overhead bridges of twin cities enhance the beauty of the cities and help promote the business of multinational companies.
But on the other hand, these advertising boards pose threat to human lives, as the electricity wires used to lit the boards are left uncovered. "No safety measures have been taken to avoid untoward incident of short circuit as these are iron-made bridges," Hassan Tayyab a university student complained. Every day hundreds of people climbed up and down the stairs without knowing the danger of short-circuiting, he added.
When contacted, Director District Municipal Administration Momin Agha said that DMA would resolve the problem. He however sought cooperation from people and asked them to inform DMA about such inconveniences.
