NWFP Governor Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai presided over a meeting to discuss the issues relating to electricity supply and recovery of Wapda dues. Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani, Additional Chief Secretary, Fata, Javed Iqbal, Secretary to Governor Azmat Hanif, Pesco Chief Executive Brigadier Sakhi Marjan, Chief Executive TESCO and officials of Fata Secretariat also attended.
The meeting discussed various proposals to improve the recovery of Wapda dues against the residents of Fata and provision of quality service to tribal consumers.
It was noted that recovery position in Fata was not satisfactory and needed to be improved. Similarly, the need for upgradation of electricity distribution system in tribal areas was also stressed and various measures in this regard were discussed.
The meeting decided to constitute a committee comprising officials of Pesco, Tesco, Fata Secretariat and representatives of political administration and stakeholders to thrash out the issues and submit proposals.
The Governor emphasised the need for evolving a mechanism for ensuring payment of dues by consumers in Fata. He said that Wapda should improve the services in Fata. Wapda Chairman admitted that the service delivery with regard to electricity supply in tribal areas was not up to the mark.
