An official of the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) on Saturday failed to satisfy public representatives in the City Council. Khalid Waleed, Manager Civil Registration Management System (CRMS), Nadra most of the time remained silent or came up with unsatisfactory answers to relentless questions and reservations of the council members.
The City Council general session with City Naib Nazim Nasrin Jalil as convenor was held here at Council Hall, Old KMC Building, M.A. Jinnah Road. In a final ruling the convenor said the council would send a list of questions prepared by the city council members to Nadra as Khalid was unable to respond to the members' queries.
On Point of Order, Javed Jadoon from the treasury benches drew attention of the house towards the poorly priced auctions of two charity plots in Sector 9-B, Baldia Town by the City District Government Karachi (CDGK). "An 80-yard plot in the area is rated at 1.2 million rupees while the two plots have been auctioned at a nominal price", he told the house.
Shabana Shabab of Haq Parast Group proposed that Ramazan like stalls and strict checking should be introduced in the city to curtail the ever-increasing inflation.
She also suggested that like Managing Director of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Rashid Mughal, in charge union council programme Karachi should also be called in the house. Nomanul Haq complained that Nadra system has not been installed in majority of the UCs.
The Nadra official in reply to Haq's complaint said the claim was untrue and all the UCs had got the said system. Tever Ali of Haq Parast Group questioned the Nadra official that who set October 22 as a deadline for manual issuance of the National Identity Cards while the council was not taken onboard on the decision? The notification had come from the executive district officer, Information Technology department of the CDGK, Khalid replied.
The council members accorded a warm welcome to the Indian Deputy High Commissioner (Secy) Manpreet Vohra who visited the house during its proceedings. The convenor adjourned the session till November 7, 2007 (Wednesday).
