The Agri-Forum Pakistan has urged the federal and provincial governments to act against fertiliser companies and dealers allegedly forcing farmers to buy two bags of urea if wanted to purchase one bag of DAP fertiliser. This demand surfaced in a meeting held here on Saturday with Chairman Ibrahim Mughal in the chair.
The meeting claimed that some fertiliser companies and dealers were forcing farmers to buy two bags of urea on purchase of one bag of DAP fertiliser, creating fiscal problems for farmers.
The meeting said if 20 million bags of DAP fertiliser were used for sowing in the Rabi season. Farmers will have to buy 40 million of other fertiliser, meaning the farmers would not only buy Rs 27 billion of DAP fertiliser but they will have to spend Rs 22 billion to buy other fertilisers.
The meeting said the fertiliser companies and dealers were adopting novel ways to extort money from the farmers, prompting the governments to take stringent measures against them. Rana Majid Zafar, Chaudhry Waqas Ilyas, Chaudhry Imran, Mian Muhammad Shafiq and Malik Noor Muhammad also attended the meeting.
