While listening to a news on PTV the other day, I heard President General Pervez Musharraf saying that he has asked Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to ensure that prices of all items at the Utility Stores throughout the country are reasonably reduced forthwith.
General Pervez Musharraf said this while talking to newsmen after chairing the meeting of the National Security Council in Islamabad. Next moming, the newspapers headlined General Pervez Musharraf's pledge to hold the general election in a free, fair and transparent manner, but there was no mention of his direction that prices should be reduced reasonably at the Utility Stores network.
Prices of essential articles in fact is of more importance to the womenfolk in general and housewives like me in particular than general election and other matters. The women throughout the country are surely very keenly awaiting action to bring prices of essential items down.
