The Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday launched a pilot project to implement internationally rated Oracle based campus management solution to streamline and enhance efficiency of six universities at the cost of Rs 150 million.
Tagged as 'PeopleSoft Campus Solution,' the state of the art IT solutions for public universities have been achieved by the HEC with the collaboration of Oracle and its partner Techlogix.
Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) was the chief quest at the launching ceremony. He said 'we are transforming our education system therefore, it is necessary to have an efficient infrastructure of universities to meet the global challenges.'
He said that 'PeopleSoft Campus Solution' would reduce the cost of administration and would also make the process of admission, examination and result transparent with an easy access to the students and administration.
He said Pakistan is the only country where students of all public universities have access to more than 40,000 e-books and 25,000 journals. In addition, the facility of video-lecture has also been introduced.
He said that reforms and achievements of the HEC have been recognised as a silent revolution by the international observers who conducted a survey of eighty countries in the field of education.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sohail Naqvi, Executive Director, HEC, said the project represents five-year efforts that started with computerisation of the universities resulting interlinking of all universities through internet. This project would provide solutions for the problems emerging from enrolment of the students to the completion of their degrees.
He said that Pakistan's economic uplift depends upon a single factor that is capacity building and skill development in human resources. The HEC is boldly undertaking measures to fulfil this national obligation which is substantiated with the launch of this project.
Development of this system will also help the management and authorities to access and communicate accessible reports based on real time data for strategic forecasting, planning and decisions, he added.
Samina Rizwan, country head, Oracle, said that Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solution is being used by over 700 educational and research institutions around the world.
The HEC has been offered with one of the most advanced student information system available globally, that provides a complete solution for managing all aspects of student's life at the university.
