The NWFP wildlife department has announced commencement of partridges shooting season 2007-08 in the province under Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Act 1975. According to notification, partridges shooting will be allowed at protected areas under specified rules.
Shooting of partridges including See-see partridge, Black partridge, Grey partridge and Chakur partridge will be permissible in the province w.e.f. Sunday 18th, November 2007 till Sunday 27th, January 2008.
The entire province, except for the protected areas will remain open to partridge shooting. Hunting shall be permissible only on Sundays and gazetted holidays. Hunting in a Game Reserve shall be permissible only under a special permit to be granted by the Chief Conservator Wildlife NWFP at his discretion.
The partridge population in the game reserves will be regularly monitored and permits will be stopped as soon as it is deemed appropriate by respective Division Forest officer wildlife.
Maximum bag limit shall not exceed eight birds of all species combined per gun per day. Value of property equal to Rs 500 will be charged for each bird shot in excess to bag limit, besides compensation.
A hunting party will not exceed 5 (five guns). Game reserves shall be divided into various shooting units and only one party of hunters will be allowed in a unit on a single day.
The party leader will apply for shooting permits in Game reserve only four days in advance giving particulars of shooting licenses and copies of NIC of party members.
Wildlife law shall be implemented indiscriminately without being influenced by the social, political and service status of the offenders. Each pointer/retriever dog used for hunting in a Game Reserve will be charged an additional fee @Rs 250 per dog. The owner of the dog will be required to have a valid possession license for the dog.
Hunting in a Community Game Reserve will be permissible only after written consent of the Village Conservation Committee (VDC)'s. Use of automatic weapons like repeater shotgun shall not be permissible for hunting. Special permit will either be revalidated nor will its fee be refundable.
No special permit will be issued to any person unless he holds a valid shooting license. No person will be issued permit for hunting in more than one Game Reserve on a single day.
The following fee will be charged for various licenses/permits during 2007-08 shooting season, Small game shooting license Rs 1000 per annum, Small game shooting license for subsistence Hunting in Chitral District. Rs 500 per annum, Special permit for shooting in a Game Reserve Rs 1000 per day, Possession license for dog Rs 150 per annum. Permit for use of hunting dog in a Game Reserve Rs 250 per dog per day 90 percent of the fee realised form special permits for shooting in Game Reserves will be paid to the local communities.
