Minister for Communication Barrister Habibur Rehman on Wednesday asked the political parties to sit together and find out an amicable way forward towards democracy rather than indulging in the practice of confrontation and violence.
Speaking in a PTV programme, he said the caretaker government is a temporary set-up with the defined objective of holding free and fair election and continuation of development activities in country. The opposition inspite of levelling baseless allegation about the rigging of polls should come up with a positive approach to mend the fences, he said.
Rehman said a number of initiative have been taken by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure free and fair election. The minister said that country is passing through a sensitive period and all the members of civil society belonging to any field of life are responsible for it.
"We should realise our responsibility as a nation and come out with firm resolve to put the country on right path", the minister said. He said there would be local and foreign observers, polling agents of all the candidates, media persons adding how it would be possible for anyone to rig the polls.
The minister said that manifest approach of the opposition parties indicates that rather they want to escape the process due to fear of defeat or they want to create anarchy in the country.
He said the government was bold enough to introduce National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) on the request of a major political party (PPPP) to provide level playing field to all the stakeholder in election adding but unfortunately the PPPP leadership was not behaving positively.
