Aspiring candidates for the contesting general elections 2007 rushed to file their nominations with the returning officers of their constituencies before the deadline of the midnight of Monday.
Those filed nominations for the NA-I, first in the series for the National Assembly, lower house of the parliament were included ANP leader, Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, his nephew Haroon Ahmad Bilour, Syed Ayub Shah (PPP-Parliamentarian), Zahid Hussein of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Shabir Ahmad Khan (MMA), Maulana Ismail Derveish, Haji Mohammad Afzal (PML-N), Zahoor Qureshi (PPP-Shaheed Bhutto), Aurangzeb Khan, Nasir Khan and Riaz Banjauri (independents).
On NA-II, a total of 9 candidates filed their nominations. They included former MMA member of the National Assembly, Maulana Rahmatullah Khalil, Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil (PPP-Parliamentarian), Arbab Najibullah (ANP) and Dr Mohammad Iqbal Khalil of (Jamaat-e-Islami) while Haji Aftab, Ejazullah Khalil, Asifullah Qasmi, Ibrahim Khan and Syed Zahoor Hussain Shah filed their nominations as independent candidates.
For contest on NA-III, seven candidates filed their nominations included Noor Alam Khan of PPP-Parliamentarian, Maulana Azizullah of JUI-F, Taimur Khan, Hidayatullah, Arbab Alam, Ajmal Khan and Arbab Roohullah (independents) and Zafar Iqbal Jhagra of PML-N.
Those filed nominations for NA-IV were: former City District Nazim, Azam Afridi of PPP-Parliamentarian, Arbab Mohammad Zahir of ANP, Engineer Amir Muqaam (PML-Q), Sabir Hussain Awan (JI), Maulana Nisar (JUI-F), Iqbal Zafar Jhagra (PML-N), Mumtaz Iqbal, Niazullah and Mohammad Nawaz (independents).
The submission of the nominations for the constituencies of National and provincial assembly in other districts of the province was also in full-swing while candidates for the seats reserved for minorities and women also filed their papers with their returning officers concerned.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan has extended the last date of submission of nomination papers for constituencies of NWFP northern restive districts of Swat, Shangla and the tribal areas till December 6.
"The candidates for National Assembly seats NA-29 and NA-30 and provincial assembly seats PF-80, PF-81, PF-82, PF-83, PF-84, PF-85, PF-86 in Swat, and NA-31 and PF-87 and PF-88 in Shangla can submit their nominations till December 6," a spokesman of the provincial election commission in Peshawar has said reportedly.
Similarly, deadline for filing nomination papers for three National Assembly seats in tribal areas NA-37, NA-38 and NA-40 was also extended till December 6. The election commission has extended the date of filing nomination papers due to prevailing law and order situation in the area, however the polling will be held on scheduled date.
