Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Minister Mian Shafqat Ali has said that government will provide constructed houses to the allottees of 5-marla plots in the Area Development Scheme-IV Jhelum.
He said this would not only help in providing residential facilities to low-income segments of society but also clear the backlog in the housing sector. The minister chairing a meeting of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency here on Thursday said the government was using all available resources to provide residential facilities to the low income people.
He also said low-paid people would be provided houses in the future. "Plots up to 5-marla would be allotted through ballot in residential schemes of Jhelum whereas plots of more than five marla and all commercial plots would be sold through open auction," he added.
The meeting approved the new mode of payment of plots purchased through auction. Accordingly to the new policy, it would be compulsory for the purchaser to deposit 33 percent of the total amount within 15 days instead of seven days. Mode of auction of the plots reserved for public utilities has also been amended and now 50 percent of such plots would be offered to government departments /autonomous bodies, 30 percent to private sector and 20 percent to NGOs. It also unanimously decided that in case of cancellation of plot, the allotee would file his first appeal to DG PHATA instead of concerned DCO.
HUD and PHE Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, PHATA Director General Shahzad Jamil and representatives of the Planning and Development Department, Finance, Local Government and Revenue Departments were also present.
