Soyabean futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were holding firm early on Thursday, lifted by strong weekly export sales data and friendly monthly crush figures, traders said. At 10:37 am CST (1637 GMT), CBOT soya was up 12 to down 1/4 cent per bushel, with January up 4-1/4 at $11.01 per bushel.
The US Agriculture Department early Thursday in its weekly export sales report said that 1,117,900 tonnes of soyabeans were sold for export last week, compared with estimates for 900,000 to 1.2 million tonnes. China was the biggest buyer with roughly 560,000 tonnes.
And the US Census Bureau said on Thursday in its monthly crush report that US processors crushed 163.51 million bushels of soyabeans in October, which was above the average analyst estimate for 163.1 million. Soyameal was up 70 cents to $3.70 per ton, with December up $1.00 at $293.20 per ton.
Last week's export sales for the products were strong but within expectations. USDA said 145,100 tonnes of 2007/08 US soyameal were sold for export last week, compared with estimates for 100,000 to 150,000 tonnes.
