Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister former justice Ejaz Nisar has directed that pace of work on Walled City rehabilitation project be accelerated, as completion of this project will not only promote tourism but also leave a positive impact on the economic condition of the dwellers of this area.
He said this while presiding over a meeting that reviewed the pace of work on the rehabilitation project of the Walled City here on Monday, disclosed an official. Planning and Development Board Punjab Chairman Suleman Ghani, Sustainable Development of Walled City Lahore Project Director General Humayun Farshori, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Yousuf Naseem Khokhar, Director Nadir Aqueel Ansari and other senior officers were present.
The chief minister said that this project would help in highlighting cultural identity and historical significance of the provincial metropolis. He also said that Walled City is the custodian of historical traditions of Lahore and such pride-worthy buildings as Lahore Fort, Badshahi and Sunehri mosques are located in this area.
"The project envisages rehabilitation of royal passageway, historical buildings and gardens of the Walled City as well as improvement of sewerage and sanitation system and widening of roads and streets. Execution of the project will further promote tourist attraction of the Walled City for local and foreign visitors, which will leave a positive impact on economy. Rehabilitation of the Walled City will be a matter of pride and honour for the people of Lahore as well as the whole country," he added.
The P&D Chairman Suleman Ghani said that under the project of rehabilitation of Walled City, civic amenities, including health and education facilities, water supply, electricity, telephone, street lights and traffic system will be improved.
