Out of total 671 nomination papers filed by women candidates against seats reserved in the National and Provincial Assemblies including non-Muslim in the Punjab Assembly, 405 papers were rejected by the returning officers.
Sources in the provincial election commission said here on Tuesday that 155 nomination papers were filed against seats reserved for women in the National Assembly for Punjab, of which 73 were rejected.
In total, 399 nomination papers were filed against seats reserved for women in the Punjab, of which 242 were rejected while 117 were filed against seats reserved for non-Muslims in the Punjab Assembly and 90 were rejected.
According to sources, most of the women candidates did not enclose complete documents due to which their papers were rejected by the returning officers. The percentage of rejection of papers is nearly 63 percent. The sources further said this also showed that lack of awareness on the part of women candidates towards election procedure.
