The parliamentary board of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) met here on Friday with party's President Shahbaz Sharif chairing it and finalised party candidates for the upcoming general elections. Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhaggra said the party had finalised the candidates' names but it would contest the polls if the party refused to boycott them.
The meeting also discussed the rejection of Sharif's nomination papers and Sharif himself clearly claimed a plan had been made to rig the elections. "I had not filed appeal on the rejection of papers despite the fact that the papers were rejected on false grounds," Sharif told the meeting.
The PML-N also decided to intensify the mass contact campaign during which people of civil society would be apprised about the PML-N's stance on current situation. Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Begum Tehmina Daultana, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Iqbal Zafar Jhaggra also attended.
After the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif told reporters that his party would decide about contesting or boycotting the January 8, elections within next 45 hours. To a question, he said holding of transparent polls seems to be impossible under the present state of affairs.
