NWFP Caretaker Chief Minister Shams-ul-Mulk has said that a comprehensive institute would be established for special children where all facilities including higher education up to Ph.D. would be provided 100 percent free of cost to them.
He added that establishment of schools for special children in private sector would be made possible in every district of the province for which seed money would be provided by the government. He announced a grant of Rs 5 million for the purpose.
He was addressing a function of Special Children of Azam Khan Special Education center Charsadda at Frontier House Peshawar on Friday. Provincial Minister for Finance Azam Khan, Ex. Chief Secretary Abdullah, secretaries of social welfare and finance departments, director social welfare and other attended the function.
The chief minister said that physically handicapped and mentally retarded persons were the most deprived segments of the society; therefore, they deserved our utmost support and attention. He said that we must share our pleasures with special persons and look after them in the manner we chose for our own children.
He said that the institutions to be set up for the disabled would mostly benefit the poor adding that the international community including the entire Pakistani community would be involved in this noble task.
He termed this task a mission saying if we succeeded in this mission we would earn the pleasure of Allah and emerge triumphant thus the dream of a welfare state would come true. He said that his government was taking steps in this direction with good intentions hoping that the future governments would continue it.
