Asia retained the Lexus Cup after fending off a challenge from a resilient internationals team in the final day's singles competition on Sunday. Asia were beaten in almost half of Sunday's matches but stood firm to win the contest 15-9 at the Vines Resort and Country Club.
Having trounced the internationals 6-0 on the opening day's foursomes and extending that lead to 9 to 2 in the fourballs, Asia needed only three points to win. The internationals won the final day by a single point but Asia's 5 « points were enough to retain the title they won in Singapore last year.
Swede Annika Sorenstam had got the internationals off to the ideal start with a 4&3 win over Taiwan's Candie Kung. American Nicole Castrale and Brazilian Angela Park threatened a comeback for the internationals when they took the lead in their matches.
