In a bid to end pollution, Adidas has worked out a way to transform plastic debris found in the ocean into UltraBoost shoes.

The company has joined forces with the environmental initiative Parley for the Ocean for the second time to launch three new editions of shoes Ultraboost, Ultraboost X, and Ultraboost Uncaged, available in-store and online starting May 10.

Each pair of shoes will be made by reusing 11 plastic bottles, and feature laces, heel lining and sock liner covers made from other recycled materials.

Parley for the Ocean has collaborated with the German footwear brand, helping to achieve the goal of creating one million pairs of UltraBoost sneakers by turning waste into thread which is used in building the running shoes.

“We are one of the very few companies that integrate sustainability into their business model, which becomes most visible in the fact that we take sustainability to the product level,” said Kasper Rorsted, Adidas CEO according to Independent.

“We not only see sustainability as an opportunity to get a competitive advantage. We see it as an obligation for us as a global company to do business in a responsible and sustainable way,” he added.

The prime objective of the company is to create awareness of the pollution as last year, the brand also traded plastic bags for paper ones in its stores claiming to have eliminated almost 70 million plastic shopping bags.
