Tariq-Fatemi Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has removed Tariq Fatemi, PM’s special assistant on Foreign Affairs from his position on Saturday, over Dawn leaks controversy.

A notification from the PM Office reads that the .allocation of portfolio of Foreign Affairs to Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, shall be withdrawn.

The notification stated that the role of the editor of Dawn Newspaper, Zaffar Abbas, and reporter Cyril Almeida will be referred to the All Pakistan News paper Association (APNS).

pm-notifiocation-1024It added that Rao Tehseen Ali, the principal information officer at the Foreign Ministry, will be proceeded against under the E&D rules 1973 on the charges based on the report findings.

The notification also said that the APNS will be asked to develop a code of conduct for the print media, especially when dealing with issues related to the security of Pakistan.

The story which was published last year, stirred a major controversy, after Cyril Almeida reported that during the National Security Committee (NSC) the civilian leaders had spoken to the military about Pakistan ‘growing diplomatic isolation’ for lack of action against some militant groups.

In the aftermath of the story published, Pervaiz Rashid, the then Information Minister was requested by PM to step down from the ministry.
