Due to one or other factors, Pakistan has a politically chequered history of over six decades. The country also has a long but not so encouraging history of political and religious parties alliances.
Over the years, a number of political and religious parties alliances have been formed. And, a lot all of these have gone into the oblivion with or without realising the objectives.
Now, all three existing alliances of political and religious parties' fate hangs in the balance, most due to their component parties own doings, misdoing and wrong doings.
Within a matter of weeks, the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) have undergone dramatic changes and may not be existing after the general elections are held early next month.
The alliances have virtually evaporated in the thin air as the component parties agree and disagreed on contesting or not contesting the general election next month.
It is rather deplorable that the political and religious parties who have been demanding restoration of democracy could not develop unanimity of views for contesting the polls in order to strengthen the democratic process in the country and boost political stability. They did not even allow the decision of the majority of the component parties prevail over those in the minority. This is no democratic attitude, to say the least.
