Eidul Azha was celebrated here on Friday like other parts of the country with religious fervour and enthusiasm. Eid prayers were offered at hundreds of mosques, Eidgahs, Imambargahs, and open places in the city and other towns of the district.
As usual, the biggest Eid congregation in the city was held at historic Badshahi Masjid where Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool and Caretaker Chief Minister Sheikh Ejaz Nisar accompanied by senior officials offered Eid prayers. Later, the governor exchanged Eid greetings with officers and the people of all walks of life at Governor's House.
PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif offered Eid prayers at Raiwind. After offering Eid prayers, both visited the mazar of their father, Mian Mohammad Sharif, and laid a floral wreath on it. Talking to media persons on the occasion, Nawaz said they were waging a struggle to make the country in accordance with the vision of Allama Muhammad Iqbal and ideals of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Qazi Hussein Ahmed led Eid prayers at Mansoora. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, he highlighted the reasons, which forced them to announce boycott of upcoming polls. He claimed that the people would reject the elections by staying away from it on January 8.
Other big Eid congregations were held at Data Darbar, Masjid Shuhada, Masjid Wazir Khan, Jamia Mosque Minhajul Quran, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Masjid Ibrahim, Karbala Gamey Shah, Islampura Mosque, etc.
Ulema and Khateebs delivered special sermons and lectures highlighting the significance of the day. Special prayers were offered for the liberation of all occupied Muslim territories, including occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine and durable peace in the region.
Later, the faithful slaughtered sacrificial animals to commemorate the Sunnat of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). The faithful in a large number also performed "Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi" and sacrificed animals, including goats, cows and camels to win the blessings of Allah Almighty on the second and third day of Eid-ul-Azha ie Saturday and Sunday.
TV and Radio channels presented special programmes, while newspapers brought out special supplements to highlight importance of the sacred day.
