Former foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has called upon leaders of all political parties to play their role in promoting national unity in vake of the challenges being confronted by the nation and the country.
Addressing a press conference at his residence here on Saturday, he said "The assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto is a great national tragedy which has delivered a blow to the democratic forces".
He said the Pakistan Peoples Party is the main aggrieved in this tragedy, and if it so desires, elections should be postponed. However, he added, some main political parties including the PML-Q, JUI, MQM and ANP are taking part in elections.
Commenting on the stance taken by the PML-N, Kasuri said that the party had first announced to boycott elections, later decided to participate in the polls, and is again now talking of a boycott.
The former federal minister observed that the anguish and anger of PPP workers and activists is understandable, but some negative elements want to take advantage of this situation to destabilise the country.
