The spokesman for the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Farhatullah Babar, has rejected the government claim about Baitullah Mehsud's involvement in assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
In an interview with the BBC, he said that by issuing such statements the government wants to protect the real elements and divert the masses' attention from the Rawalpindi incident towards the al Qaeda and Taliban.
To a query, the PPP spokesman said the government had also claimed after attacks on the PPP chairperson's procession on October 18 that the attack was carried out by outfit of Baitullah Mehsud. He said that after Karachi tragedy, Baitullah Mehsud sent a message to Benazir Bhutto that he had no link with October 18 catastrophe and also made it clear that he has no enmity with Benazir Bhutto or PPP.
To a question about the recorded talks between Baitullah Mehsu and his aide released by Crisis Management Cell In-charge Brigadier Javed Iqbal Cheema (Retd), Farhatullah Babar said the recorded talks can't prove that it were between Baitullah Mehsud and his comrade it is possible that a bogus statement might be fabricated. He demanded of the government to hold fair probe into the Liaquat Bagh incident and bring the real culprits involved in the tragedy.
