Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has advised Minister for Industries to prepare a report of losses incurred by industrialists after the December 27 incident He gave this advice during a meeting with delegation of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI) and industrialists whose units were burned, looted and ransacked by miscreants.
The Governor has also advised the Minister to peruse insurance companies to pay compensation to those whose units were insured. Whereas the Government may make some arrangements to pay compensation to those industrialists whose units were not insured, sources said. Sources said that the Governor assured that a separate security plan would be prepared for industrial area in consultation with industrial associations and trade bodies.
It was proposed that a new force would be created to tackle law and order situation in emergencies. This new force would work in collaboration with industrial associations.
During the meeting Inspector General of Police (IGP) informed that the Police Department is facing shortage of manpower to control and tackle such situation. Director General Rangers informed that around 10,000 Rangers personnel were deployed in the city. Out of them 5000 were deployed at government buildings, refineries, and other important installations.
Two foreign nationals were also present in the meeting whose units were looted and later torched by miscreants. The industrialists apprised the Governor in details about mob''s attack on factories who them set them on fire after looting.
The unruly mob also looted vehicles loaded with export goods and burned them during violence, which erupted after the assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Rawalpindi. The meeting was attended by Chairman Kati Masood Naqi, KATI''s Former Chairman S.M.Munir, Abdul Haseeb Khan, Mian Zahid Husain and Patron-in-Chief NKATI Captain Moiz Khan, representatives of business community and others.
