France has offered Pakistan its assistance in investigating Liaquat Bagh suicide attack of December 27, in which former prime minister and PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto was killed along with 25 others.
"I have talked to President Musharraf about the Liaquat Bagh incident and asked if Pakistan wants to investigate the assassination of Benazir Bhutto internationally, France would provide all possible support and assistance", said French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, while talking to reporters here on Wednesday.
The French minister visited Liaquat Bagh to pay tribute to martyred Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated on December 27 in firing and suicide bombing when she was leaving Liaquat Bagh after addressing a public meeting. He laid floral wreath at the site of blast and remained silent for one minute.
Kouchner arrived at Liaquat Bagh after holding meetings with the President, the prime minister and the foreign minister. He was scheduled to visit Larkana to condole with family and party leaders of Benazir Bhutto which was later abandoned.
Aamir Fida Paracha, senior PPP leader and a candidate of the party from NA-55, received the French foreign minister. Paracha thanked him for showing solidarity with Pakistani people and the PPP. Bernard Kouchner told reporters that France wants stability of Pakistan and it will co-operate with Pakistan at all levels.
Paying glowing tributes to (late) Benazir Bhutto, he said that she was a brave lady and a great fighter of democracy and freedom. "I came here to express solidarity with Pakistani government and the people on this sad event on behalf of the French President, the government and the people of France", he added.
He said that the services of Benazir Bhutto would be long remembered.
